First passenger train of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari (Uzbekistan Railways) run on route Tashkent-Andijan via electrified railway Angren-Pap on 27 August 2016.
It is worth to mention that freight trains started to run on electrified railway Angren-Pap from 11 July. Currently, over 500,000 various cargoes were transported to and from Ferghana Valley, Uzbekistan Temir Yollari said.
The railway Angren-Pap was opened in June 2016. The cost of the project is US$1.63 billion. New line linked Ferghana Valley’s regions with other part of Uzbekistan and completed creation of single national railway system.
The length of the line is123.2 km with 19.2 km tunnel via Qamchiq pass. Tunnel, constructed by Uzbekistan Temir Yollari and China Railway Tunnel Group, hold the eighth place in the world by its complexity and 13th place on the length.
According to Uzbekistan Temir Yollari, the new railway will allow to transport about 10 million tonnes of freight a year. In the first year, it is planned that some 600,000 passengers will be transported via new railroad.
