Istanbul – Dushanbe

Flight to Dushanbe from Istanbul via Turkish Airlines flight TK 254, departure at 20:45 pm, arrival at 03:35 am (next day).

Monday

Dushanbe

Tajikistan’s awesomely dramatic highland landscapes are now testing playgrounds for hardy climbers, trekkers and adventure travelers. The people, predominantly Persian – rather than Turkic-speaking, are enormously hospitable but little English is spoken. But the marvels of the Wakhan Valley, the starkly beautiful ‘Roof of the World’ Pamirs and the breathtaking lakes and pinnacles of the Fan Mountains all contribute to making Tajikistan arguably Central Asia’s most exciting destination.

Our guide will meet you in the airport at 3:35 am and accompany to Dushanbe.

You will check-in at the hotel and have a rest.

The entire day is dedicated to a guided city tour. First of we will visit Rudake Park, National library, White House, National state seal, and House of parliament. After it we will walk in National park to make photos of Ministry of Inner Affairs and the biggest National Flag in the world – 165 m high pole, 30 m wide, 60 m long. After excursion in Central Museum you will have lunch. Then you will visit to Gurminj Museum of traditional musical instruments. To feel real life you should visit Asian bazar. It has colorful goods, fruits and vegetables. We will see today the main highlights of Dushanbe and you will find out many interesting facts about Tajik people.

Day 2

Tuesday

Dushanbe – Iskanderkul Lake

Breakfast in the hotel.

Our trip today is to high Mountain lake – Iskanderkul (2 255 m. a. s. l.). It is situated in the famous Fann Mountains. This fabulous area is one of the best places of Central Asia. The road to the lakes goes over Anzob pass (3 372 m) with amazing panorama views. After arrival to the lake you will go for a walk along it beaches. This is an amazing place to have a rest. Also we will hike 40 minutes to see a waterfall. Tajikistan takes the second place among the CIS countries for volume of water resources: it has the highest water reserves of all Central Asian countries with more than 1 000 rivers, 2 000 lakes and 8000 glaciers.

Day 3

Wednesday

Iskanderkul Lake – Khujand

Breakfast.

Today we will drive to Khujand city. The road to the lakes goes over Anzob pass (3 372 m) with amazing panorama views. Khujand is the second largest city of Tajikistan. It is situated on the Syr Darya River at the mouth of the Fergana Valley. The population of the city is 149,000. It is also the capital of the northernmost province of Tajikistan, now called Sughd.

Thursday

Khujand – Oibek BP – Tashkent

Breakfast in the hotel.

In the first half of the day you will visit a Cultural Palace of Khujand. At this place the first president of Tajikistan was chosen. Also we will go to see Central Mosque that is situated in the middle of the city. Afterwards you will be transferred to Tajik-Uzbek Oibek border checkpoint (80 km).

Please note, here you will pass the border between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on Oibek post, it may take from 1 to 1,5 hours.

Meet by driver, transfer to Tashkent (144 km).

Arrival in Tashkent.

Day 5

Friday

Tashkent – Urgench – Khiva

Tashkent is one of the most ancient cities in Central Asia. Archaeological finds of artifacts and old city remains dated as far back as IV-III B.C., have been acknowledged. During its history, Tashkent had been named Djadj, Chachkent, Shashkent and Binkent. The name Tashkent was first mentioned in historical transcripts in the IX century.

Walking tour to Alisher Navoi Ballet and Opera House, Independence square, The Subway. Visits of Friday Mosque and Kaffol Shoshi Mausoleum, Kukeldash Madrasah, Museum of Decorative Arts.

Transfer to the airport for evening flight HY57 from Tashkent to Urgench, departure at 18:40, arrival at 21:00.

Arrival and transfer to Khiva, check-in and rest in the hotel.

Saturday

Khiva

Civilization has existed in this oasis area for at least four millennium. The historic center of Khiva has been preserved in its authenticity, and for that reason it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. To enter Khiva is to traverse into medieval times. This walled city dates from the Xth century and is in essence an outdoor historical, architectural and cultural museum. This was the capital for the khans of Khiva, and the major monuments from the Xth to the XIXth centuries are intact. These include the Ichan-Qala gates and the wall, as well as the Khuna Ark. It is worth noting that the great IXth-century mathematician al-Khwarizmi (Latinized as Algoritmi) was born in Khiva. He is as famous in the Middle East as Euclid is in the West. We owe algorithms to Algoritmi (the mathematical foundation of Internet search) and to some degree algebra, from his book Al-Jebr.

Sightseeing in Khiva: Mukhammad Amin Khan and Kalta Minor, Kunya-Ark (ancient fortress), Mukhammad Rakhim Khan Madrasa, Said Allaoutdin Mausoleum, Jami Mosque with 212 wooden columns, Tash Khauli – the second residence of khans of Khiva, Pakhlavan Makhmud Mausoleum, Islam-Khodja ensemble, local bazaar, wood carvers workshops.

Sunday

Khiva – Urgench – Bukhara

UNESCO, in naming Bukhara a World Heritage site, states: “It is the most complete example of a medieval city in Central Asia, with an urban fabric that has remained largely intact.” In a bit of one-upmanship locals like to say, “Samarkand is the beauty of the earth, but Bukhara is the beauty of the spirit.” It exudes a beguiling, old-world atmosphere.

Transfer to the Urgench airport for morning flight HY52 to Bukhara, departure at 10:10, arrival at 11:10.

Sightseeing in Bukhara: The Ark Citadel, Bolo-Khaouz Mosque, Ismail Samani Mausoleum, Chashma-Ayub Mausoleum, Job source, Magok-Attor Mosque, Trade Dome Toki-Sarafon (Dome of the Moneychangers), Toki-Zargaron (Dome of the jewellers) and Toki-Tilpak Furushon (Dome of the headgear Sellers), Chor Minor Madrassah, Poi Kalyan complex.

Monday

Bukhara

Breakfast in the hotel.

Sightseeing: Lyabi-Khauz Ensemble including Nadir-Divan-Beghi Madrasah, Kukeldash Madrasah and Nadir-Divan-Beghi khanaka, then visit Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa – summer residence of Bukhara’s last emir. Continue to Mausoleum of Bakhouddin Naqshbandi.

Return to Bukhara.

Tuesday

Bukhara – Samarkand

Free time in Bukhara.

Departure from Bukhara to Tashkent by high-speed train #761 Afrosiyob, departure at 15:52, arrival at 17:25.

Upon arrival to Samarkand accommodation in the hotel.

The title “the heart of the Great Silk Road” is rightly attached to Samarkand. It is included in a special list of UNESCO – The World legacy. The significance of its material and spiritual values are so great. Unique monuments of ancient architecture, the legacy of scientific and artistic schools, centers of traditional national crafts of Samarkand are praised and glorified today throughout the world. Samarkand has a unique combination of styles and art schools that gave birth to distinctive looks of this ancient city as described by historians, poets and diplomats of the past.

Samarkand

Breakfast in the hotel.

Morning sightseeing tour in Samarkand begins with visit of the Gur Amir Mausoleum, the beautifully tiled resting place of Tamerlane and his sons, the tomb of Tamerlane, great conqueror and the main architect of Samarkand, then, visit of the legendary Registan Square.

Excursion to Bibi Khanym, ones the biggest Mosque in Central Asia, it was erected by Tamerlane after his victorious Indian campaign in 1399. After, the walk to orient bazaar Siab, nearby to Bibi Khanym. Continue to the Shakhi Zinda Necropolis, whereas believes, the cousin of the Prophet Mohammed, Qusamibn Abbas, is entombed. Next visit – the Afrosiab Museum.

Thursday

Samarkand – Tashkent

Breakfast in the hotel.

Visit of the Ulugh Beg Observatory, named for one of the world’s greatest astronomers. Next visits – Tomb of Saint Daniel, Samarkand Silk Paper Factory. Samarkand was one and only paper manufacturing center at the whole Middle East during the VIII and first half part of IX century.

Departure from Samarkand to Tashkent by evening high-speed train #761 Afrosiyob, departure at 17:00, arrival at 19:10.

Tashkent
