Spring (from the end of March until June) and autumn (from the beginning of September until the end of October) are the most suitable times for traveling in Uzbekistan. In spring, the weather is refreshing with the trees in full bloom. Autumn is the time of harvest, with the markets abound in fresh fruits until early December. If you are interested in visiting the mountainous regions of Uzbekistan, summer is the best time (from the beginning of July until the end of August).
The climate of the country is sharply continental with the weather corresponding to the season. Summer is quite hot with an average temperature of 32 degrees. The hottest time is July and August. This period is called “saraton”, when the temperatures can rise to 50-60 degrees in some areas of Uzbekistan. Winter is cold, though it does not snow frequently. The average temperature in winter is six degrees below zero.
The Uzbek language (Turk group) is the official state language with a large part of the population speaking Russian (Slavic group) but mainly in the major cities and not in the rural areas (kishlaks). In some regions (Samarkand, Bukhara) the Tajik language (Persian group) is also widely spoken. The English language is becoming popular among the youth and is a compulsory subject in every school.

The official currency of Uzbekistan is the Soum. You may change foreign currency at most banks or exchange points (kiosks). If currency exchange is a problem, ask your guide or driver for assistance in finding a legal exchange point.
Such credit cards as VISA and MASTER CARD are accepted in Uzbekistan. In local bazaars cash payments accepted only.
Electricity is 220 volts in Uzbekistan. To use appliances of 110/120 Volts (American system) you should use a power adapter for operation of these devices.
In summer and early autumn you should take light clothes preferably made of cotton. (T-shirts and loose light pants/shorts). Light headwear is recommended. It is necessary to have a rucksack or a medium-sized bag to carry personal items such as sunglasses, sun screen and light footwear (sandals). At the end of autumn (end of October) it is advisable to bring a light jackets or sweater. In the winter temperatures rarely fall below – 10 degrees throughout Uzbekistan. If a night is spent in the desert it is recommended to have a waterproof jacket or coat.
In some regions like the Ferghana Valley there are some limitations in which clothes one can wear. It is better to avoid wearing shorts. The same rule is applied while visiting religious places such as mosques. Women are recommended to wear shirts and blouses covering their shoulders and waist. It is preferable to wear headwear or a scarf in religious places or more conservative regions of Uzbekistan.

Being part of Great Silk Road, Uzbekistan has preserved monuments of the 13th –14th centuries. Each town is rich in historical sights. Visit the page of the city you are interested in and you will find the descriptions of local sights.
Although Uzbekistan is a Muslim country, it is not prohibited to drink or sell alcoholic beverages here. You can easily order alcoholic drinks in any bar, some restaurants or hotel or buy in many kiosks and supermarkets.
Drinking water from the tap is not recommended, but you may drink it after boiling the tap water for several minutes. Bottled mineral water is available all over the country.
We may say with confidence that you can feel safe in Uzbekistan. It is peaceful country. Although it borders Afghanistan to the north, it is not security threat as the borders are highly guarded. As in any country, it is recommended that you do not walk alone at night in secluded areas or low traveled streets of the country. If you have such a desire, take a companion(s) and forewarn your guide.
Vegetarians should order beforehand specially made food, as vegetarian readymade food is uncommon in Uzbekistan. There are specially vegetarian menus in restaurants and hotels and the local markets have a wide choice of fresh fruits and vegetables for any vegetarians’ need.
